Buckskill Winter Club is a registered United States Figure Skating Association (U.S.F.S.A.) skating club. The U.S.F.S.A. is the national governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States as recognized by the U.S. Olympic committee and the International Skating Union. We will be following their structured, comprehensive curriculum, including evaluation, testing and the ability to earn merit badges!

Due to the structured nature of the cirriculum this is not a "drop-in" program and so you must commit to at least one eight-clinic session (i.e. once a week for 8 weeks or twice a week for 4 weeks).

We offer the following Basic Skills Clinics:

Basic Skills Clinic: Figure Skating 1-8

The “Basic Skills 1-8” are the fundamentals of the sport. These eight levels of the program introduce the fundamental moves: forward skating, backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, three turns and Mohawks. Upon completion of the Basic 1-8 levels, skaters will have the basic knowledge of the sport, enabling them to advance to more specialized areas of skating.

Ice Stars

This class is the next step in pursuing the sport of figure skating! It is the point where the skater can develop a strong foundation upon which to build their skills while utilizing the entire ice surface. Participants will build their performance skills and explore team skating. Ice Stars is open to those skaters who have earned their merit badges from Basic Skills 3 or at the discretion of the Skating Director. Ice Stars is designed to augment the Basic Skills 4-8 program and skaters will have an opportunity to earn merit badges for Basic Skills 4-8. Ice Stars will be an eight week clinic held on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30. The class comprises one half hour instruction and one half hour supervised practice on full ice.

Basic Skills Clinic: Free Skate

The Free Skate Program is the next level after the Figure Skating 1-8 Program. Each Free Skate level is divided into four sections: moves in the field, spins, dance/footwork sequence and jumps. The Free Skate levels are designed to give skaters a strong foundation on which to build their skills. This is the point where the skater can choose whether to pursue a recreational or competitive approach to the sport of figure skating.

Basic Skills Clinic: Snow Plow Sam (3-5years)

This program is designed to help Preschooler’s get comfortable on the ice in a safe and fun environment. The Snow Plow Sam levels will help your pre-schooler develop preliminary coordination and strength to maneuver on the ice.

Basic Skills Clinic: Pre-Hockey

The Basic Skills Hockey curriculum is designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating. In four badge levels, skaters will learn how to maneuver faster and be more agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques are the primary focus of the levels. All elements will be taught without a puck. Skaters will learn the necessary fundamentals to be future successful hockey players. Skaters will move onto the Bridge Hockey Program from this program.
