Buckskill Winter Club is a registered United States Figure Skating Association (U.S.F.S.A.) skating club. The U.S.F.S.A. is the national governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States as recognized by the U.S. Olympic committee and the International Skating Union. We will be following their structured, comprehensive curriculum, including evaluation, testing and the ability to earn merit badges!
Due to the structured nature of the cirriculum this is not a "drop-in" program and so you must commit to at least one three week clinic session (or two week session over the Christmas break when classes are scheduled everyday).
We offer the following Learn-to-Skate Group Classes:
Snow Plow Sam (3-5years)
This program is designed to help Preschooler’s get comfortable on the ice in a safe and fun environment. The Snow Plow Sam levels will help your pre-schooler develop preliminary coordination and strength to maneuver on the ice.
Basic Skills Clinic: Fundamentals 1-6
Basic Skills teaches the fundamentals of ice skating and provides the best foundation for figure skating, hockey, and speedskating. Six progressive levels introduce forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, and turns. Upon completion of the Basic Skills 1-6 levels, skaters will be able to confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating. All classes will be well-structured with the focus on proper skill development taught in a positive, FUN, and social environment. Skaters will progress at their own rate and advance after skill mastery is demonstrated.
Upon completing the Basic Skills curriculum, skaters will be set up to choose whatever path in skating they desire. Whether they’re looking to land an Axel, score a hat trick or speed across the finish line, Basic Skills sets skaters up for success.
Ice Stars
This class is the next step in pursuing the sport of figure skating! It is the point where the skater can develop a strong foundation upon which to build their skills while utilizing the entire ice surface. Participants will build their performance skills and explore team skating. Ice Stars is open to those skaters who have earned their merit badges from Basic Skills 3 or at the discretion of the Skating Director. Ice Stars is designed to augment the Basic Skills 4-6 program and skaters will have an opportunity to earn merit badges for Basic Skills 4-6. Ice Stars will be an six week clinic held on Tuesdays or Thursdays. The class comprises one half hour instruction and one half hour supervised practice. .
Learn-to-Skate: Free Skate
The Free Skate Program is the next level after the Figure Skating 1-6 Program. Each Free Skate level is divided into four sections: moves in the field, spins, dance/footwork sequence and jumps. The Free Skate levels are designed to give skaters a strong foundation on which to build their skills. This is the point where the skater can choose whether to pursue a recreational or competitive approach to the sport of figure skating.
Learn-to-Skate: Hockey
The Learn-to-Skate Hockey curriculum is designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating. In four badge levels, skaters will learn how to maneuver faster and be more agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques are the primary focus of the levels. All elements will be taught without a puck. Skaters will learn the necessary fundamentals to be future successful hockey players. Skaters will move onto the Bridge Hockey Program from this program.
